I’m vegetarian for over 1,5 years now and I haven’t missed meat once. I feel like a lot of people are making the switch to a flexitarian, vegetarian, vegan and / or plant based diet these days, but there are still some people who don’t see the importance of eating less meat. There are so many reasons why you should eat less meat. For example: eating less meat reduces greenhouse gases, reduces animal cruelty, helps save the Amazon from destruction and is just better for overall health. And the most important thing: eating less meat doesn’t have to be hard at all! You can eat lots of other delicious foods and still feel satisfied. I’m not saying that you must completely eliminate meat from your diet. Having Meatless Mondays or smaller portions of meat is also a great way in the right direction! Here is how to eat less meat:
- Meatless Mondays
Meatless Mondays is a great way if you want to eat less meat. Just pick one day in the week (it doesn’t have to be a Monday) where you don’t eat any meat for the whole day. This is the perfect day to experiment with different recipes and foods. - Veganize your favorite meals
For every dish with meat is a vegetarian alternative. Just do a little research on Google and you will find lots of vegetarian versions of your favorite meals. Just as good! - Try mock meat
Try some mock meat if you really want the meat experience with your meal! There are a lot of delicious vega mock meats, like vega chicken, burgers, sausages and beef. Sometimes you won’t even notice the difference! - Seasoning is key!
The thing that makes your food tasteful is the seasoning, whether you eat meat or not. So always use some herbs and spices to make your meals more tasteful and delicious. - Tofu and tempeh
My favorite substitutes for meat are tofu and tempeh. You can find them pre-seasoned, but you can also season them your self. Bake them till they’re crisp and brown and you have a great meat substitute! Also a great protein source, win-win. - Make your favorite pizza or pasta without meat
You don’t need a meat substitute for every meal. A pizza or a pasta for example is extremely tasteful without any meat! Just make your favorite meal and skip the meat. - Eat more beans and lentils
Are you scared that you won’t feel full and satisfied after a vegetarian meal? Try to add more legumes, like beans and peas in your meals! They really fill you up and they’re packed with protein and fiber. - Recipe inspiration
You can find a lot of vegetarian, vegan and plant based recipes on the internet. Just Google ”vega recipes” and you’ll find more than a million hits. My favorite source for recipe inspiration is YouTube. I usually search for ”vegetarian what I eat in days” and you will find the most amazing dishes.
Are you having Meatless Mondays? Or are you already eating vegetarian, vegan, plant based?
